Christina Kallas (President), Sven Baldvinsson (Vice-President), Stanislav Semerdjiev (Tresaurer), David Kavanagh and Gino Ventriglia were elected by the members of the FSE at the Annual General Meeting in March 2009.


Christina Kallas, PRESIDENT

Writer, producer, member of the European Film Academy and of the German Film Academy. president of the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE), founder and artistic director of the Balkan Fund. She was a member and then the chair of the commission for the financing of script development of the German Federal Film Board FFA in from 2003 to 2008, and a member of the commission for the financing of film production at the German Federal Film Board from 2006 to 2008. She has taught screenwriting since 1998 at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin, at the International Film School in Cologne and at the Scuola Holden per le Techniche Narrative in Torino. Since 2007 she is senior lecturer at the Cinema Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Credits include feature films i.d, in the international competition of the Thessaloniki International Film festival in 1994, Love Lies, First Film Award at the Munich film Festival in 1997, The Commissioner, starring John Hurt and Armin Mueller-Stahl, in the official competition of the Berlin Film festival in 1998, the TV movies Männer (ARD, 1999) and Holland (WDR, 2009), Best German TV-awarded series Edel & Starck (2001 – 2003) as well as the TV series Danni Lowinsky (Sat1, 2008). She is the writer of five books: European Coproductions in Film and Television (Nomos Verlag, Baden-Baden 1992), Screenplay. The Art of Invention and Narration in Cinema (Nefeli, Athens  2006), Creative Screenwriting (uvk, Konstanz 2007), Bio/pic or The Lives of the Few (Patakis, Athens 2009) and Emotional Structure and Creative Screenwriting (Palgrave, London/New York, 2009).

Sven Baldvinsson, VICE PRESIDENT

Sven (Sveinbjörn) Baldvinsson is a screenwriter working in Denmark and the U.S as well as in Iceland, his home country. He has written three produced feature films and multiple episodes of TV drama. In the U.S. he has worked for and with such companies as Propaganda Films, Hawn/Sylbert and Spring Creek. In recent years he has taught screenwriting at several venues in Europe. He is the author of several books of poetry and prose as well as writing music and/or lyrics on a number of recordings. He has been on the board of The Icelandic Federation of Artists, The Icelandic Writers Union and a member of the selection committee for the Nordic Prize for Literature. He is the vice president of the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe, a boardmember of the Association of Icelandic Playwrights and Screenwriters and a member of the European Film Academy. Recently he was appointed Head of Screenwriting at the Norwegian Filmschool.

Stanislav Semerdjiev, TREASURER

Prof. Dr. Stanislav Semerdjiev (1963) is Rector of the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) – Sofia, Bulgaria. He is also President of the Bulgarian Association of Film, TV and Radio Scriptwriters (BAFTRS),Vice-President of the World Association of Film and TV Schools (CILECT) and Board Member of the European Federation of Screenwriters (FSE). He founded the Screenwriting Graduate Program at NATFA (1991) and created the first Bulgarian prime-time serial Hotel Bulgaria (2004, Nova TV). He is the writer and producer of the spiritual documentary The Hamlet Adventure (2008, dir. Ivaylo Dikanski and Greg Roach). He is the script analyst of more than 40  full-length feature film for the European Script Development Program SOURCES-2 (its Board Member since 2004). He has written articles in all specialized Bulgarian newspapers and magazines, including the monography A Short History of the World Screenwriting, vol.1: USA (1994). He served as Jury Member or for prestigious international film/TV festivals and has been а core participant at festivals, workshops, conferences and symposia in more than 40 countries. Currently he is member of the Public Advisory Council at the Bulgarian National TV (BNT), member of the National Film Council (NFC) and member of the Expert Advisory Council on Culture at the Sofia Municipality.

David Kavanagh, BOARD MEMBER

David Kavanagh is the Executive Officer of the Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters Guild. He has been Film Officer of the Irish Arts Council; Chief Executive of the Irish Film Institute; General Secretary of the European Script Fund. He is a board member of the Light House Cinema Exhibition and Distribution Company. He is a board member of the Federation of Scriptwriters in Europe and a member of the Policy Review Group of the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds. He is a member of the Irish Film and Television Academy and the European Film Academy.
